What a stump left standing does to a yard
A cut stump looks finished, but it keeps working against the property. Stumps attract insects, they are a hazard for anyone walking or mowing the lawn, and they are plain ugly in an otherwise tidy front yard. Some of them also send up new growth, so the tree you paid to have removed keeps trying to come back.
Rot does not make the problem go away. A stump that sits for years softens in some spots and stays hard in others, and the surface roots keep tripping mowers and kids. Grinding is the one job that deals with the stump and the roots near the surface in a single visit.
Around Atlanta we see it after storms, after builders clear a lot, and after a tree service takes the tree down and leaves the base behind. Whoever left it, the free estimate is the same: call or text 770-378-4701 and tell us where the stump is.
Tracked, remote-controlled, and light on turf
We run an SP7015 TRX, a 60 horsepower track machine with a wireless remote. The operator walks beside the grinder instead of riding it, so he can watch the cutter wheel and the ground at the same time and stop the moment something looks wrong.
The tracks telescope, hydraulically drawing in from 48 to 35 inches so the machine fits through a tight gate or along a fence line. Ground pressure is 3.2 psi, which is why lawns come through with minimal disruption, and the turntable gives a 70 inch swing so the wheel sweeps the whole stump without the machine having to keep repositioning.
The cutter wheel turns the stump and its surface roots into chips, working across the top of the stump rather than digging at one spot. Licensed, insured and bonded, and a customer on Google put it this way: he asked for the machine to stay on his side of the yard, and it did.
Chips, backfill and what goes in next
When the wheel is done, what is left is a pile of chips where the stump used to be. Those chips can be raked out and hauled off, or kept to mulch a bed. For a spot you plan to seed or sod, the hole can be backfilled with topsoil before you seed or lay sod.
Plan on some settling over the following weeks, since ground-up wood breaks down. If you are replanting in the same spot, tell us at the estimate and we can talk it through. Many Atlanta yards go straight back to grass.
Customers repeatedly mention the cleanup. We also take 10% off for military, first responders and teachers, with senior citizen and veteran discounts, and we take Venmo. Hours run 7am to 7pm, seven days a week.
